Sonic Maze
Leading you through the underbelly of the Roundhouse, Netaudio invite you to lose yourselves in the Sonic Maze, an immersive series of sound art installations set in the Roundhouse Studios.
Programmed via an open call for entries, the Sonic Maze includes the curatorial input from Martin Bricelj, Director of MoTA and Sonica - Slovenia's leading sound art festival.
The exhibition will feature 12 interactive audio-visual installations for you to explore. Confirmed projects include:
- Casques by D'Insice: a 6-channel installation transmitting high frequency composition, played loud enough through headphones so that it is heard in the room, reflecting the sound of basic audio equipment in the exhibition context.
- Dueling Fans by Void Vector: explores themes of performance, originality and automation, using the re-appropriation of technologies (guitar pick-ups / fans). The title alludes to the classic Dueling Banjo’s or Guitars concept as used in rock and roll mythology.
- Listen In by Dan Scott: features twenty portable radios broadcasting the sound of Heart FM being listened to at the same moment in time but in twenty different locations across the city.
- Modular Music Box by Monomatic: consists of several interconnected, custom made plug’n’play devices that collectively reproduce the functionality of the familiar 19th century clockwork musical instrument.
- No Numbers by Andrew Back: a playful response to John Foxx's seminal 1980 electronic music work, ‘Mr No’. The music is transformed into a sequence of numbers — digital samples — which the viewer is encouraged to copy down using the paper and pencils provided.
- Nothing to Worry About by Sara Heitlinger: an interactive performance piece that uses RFID technology to breakdown the barrier between performer and audience. Audience members use a special device to scan the artist´s body and listen to the private sounds and stories within. Times of performance TBA.
- Open Cities by Incidental: an interactive, generative piece based upon the real-time transformation of the sounds and voices of passing visitors. This project is part of Incidental's ongoing Open Cities series, explores direct, collaborative relationships between musicians, site and audience.
- Singing Bridges by Jodi Rose: a sonic installation composed with bridges as musical instruments, based on the sound of vibrations in bridge cables. The recordings were made over a nine year period in various locations of the world.
- Sound Pit by Simon Katan: an interactive sound installation involving the motion tracking of multiple coloured balls. It involves Plunderphonics, samples ranging from avant-garde classics to pop hits which are triggered and manipulated according to each ball’s colour, speed, direction, and location.
- Through The Looking Glasses by Andrea Bozic, Robert Pravda, Julia Willms: an audio-visual installation based on the Ganzfeld effect. A projected video consisting of a sequence of slowly cross-fading colours which change imperceptibly between colours. The sound consists of thousands of sound fragments, layered over each other hundreds of times, creating a beautiful sound wave.
- Magnetic Matrix by Marko Batista and Natasha Musevic a.k.a Dot: encourages visitors to explore patterns of an unstable colloid suspension of ferrofluid in liquid base and use the magnets to manipulate magnetic fields in order to create visual compositions that generate sound in real-time.
- Pufination by Robertina Šebjanič and Luka Frelih: a sensitive sensor network that subsumes the visitor into the artificially created »biosphere« through active sensor-based interaction.
